Could be, go to K%26amp;N's Yamaha web site and look on the parts diagram.Help with yamaha brand new tt250r bike....oil plug leak?
If the bike is brand new, take it back to the dealer.

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition with a mistery water leak. It's not in the heater coil or oil any other ideas?

it's not visable from any of the hoses. I have to put water in it every couple of weeksI have a 2003 Ford Expedition with a mistery water leak. It's not in the heater coil or oil any other ideas?
is it going in to the oil do you think ?,is oil going whitte colour

good luck hI have a 2003 Ford Expedition with a mistery water leak. It's not in the heater coil or oil any other ideas?
Have you noticed any water leaking beneath it after you park? If so, you should be able to crawl underneath and see where it is leaking. A likely cause that is often hard to detect is the water pump. If not, then feel the floorboard mats below the front seat(s); could be a slow leak in the heater core. If not, then I'd begin to suspect a leaking head gasket.
you may have a head gasket seeping through on it that will cause it t run the water through the engine and you not notice any large amount of steam on it,i ran across one that before on one of those, and you wont even know it bad,i finally had to tear this one down to fine it,id have a pressure check ran on it to see if that was it,it will show up under enough pressure, good luck..
could be a pinhole any where ..water only leaks out on high pressure (that is when on operating temperature)..take radiator out have it pressure tested at a radiator shop near you ..start there than maybe take water pump out and replace gaskets if pump is not faulty...thats all i can think off..since you eliminated few areas already
try looking at your waterpump or your freezeout plugs ....if its freezeout plugs most are easy to get to. they cost 3.00-5.00 to buy

Oil leaking out of the oil filler cap?

Today I noticed some oil residue around the cap, and a streak going down the clutch cover... is this normal? I haven't checked the oil level since I bought the bike 1000 miles ago, and it has been about 3k miles since the last change so I doubt it is overfilled.Oil leaking out of the oil filler cap?
There's a crankcase vent inside your air box (where the air filter is) and perhaps an oil trap on the bottom... One or both of these is probably clogged or restricted... If there is in fact an oil trap for your crankcase breather, it will be a small clear tube on the bottom of your air box... If you see oil in it, it needs to be drained. The tube will either have a plug in one end or will simply hook to a post on the frame with a clamp. Pull it loose, drain it and replace it. The problem could also be affected by a dirty air cleaner element... wouldn't hurt to clean\replace it while you're in the air box. It'll be a tight squeeze to get to the tube if there is one, so be prepared. Have a flashlight handy %26amp; long nosed pliers... Hope this helps...Oil leaking out of the oil filler cap?
Change the o-ring on the oil fill cap. When the bike was

prep-ed by the dealer, it might have gotten pinched. Inspect the cap - it could be cracked.

Clean the area until it's dry of any dirt or oil. Sprinkle some white baby powder all over and around the cap. Ride the bike and keep checking the cap. The baby powder will discolor where the oil leak is.
I would say it is not normal. Check to see if oil filler cap could have

loosened up, If not check for holes in cap
if the cap was screwed up tight....its probably from when it was filled.....if the screw was loose.....tighten it up....

%26amp; no oil shouldnt leak out there.....you may want to check the

O-ring/ gasket on the filler screw/cap...
What I find un-normal is that you would drive it without checking to see if there was any oil in it.
new or used.check your oil every time you ride.check

the cap it could be cracked or the rubber gasket. it doesn't

sound like anything major. what oil do you run?
Check the breather and see if it is plugged. Will cause pressure in the case and push oil out of the weakest place.

Usually the cap.
guardrai.. might be onto something. The bozos at the shop probably lost your O-ring when putting oil in the bike originally.

My O-ring never stayed in place when I removed the oil filler cap on my ZX-11. How I managed to never lose the O-ring, I'll never know.

My 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?

It doesnt smoke or leak but every 300 miles or so about a half quart is usedMy 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?
There's only two places it can evauate the engine.

1.Comustion and out the tail pipe.

2. Leaks

You probably have a little of both. A small amount of worn rings and sealing allows some oil to be burnt, albeit somewhat efficiently, to not notice it in your exhaust.

Even though you may not see oil on the ground, It's leaking a little.

With all that said, that's actually within factory specs for oil consumption, and yes, there is such a thing.

You can switch to a 'High Milage' oil which has additives that mmake rubber seals 'swell' or 'grow' which provides a better seal. Also, a thicker viscosity may help in the combustion side with frequent oil changes. Try a 40 or 50 weight oil.My 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?
It's just wear and tear. What do you think is coming from the exhaust pipe. Feel in there and you will have oil on your hands. All old cars do this and it is a simple thing to check before you buy a used car. The more oil you have on your fingures, the more wear will be on the engine.
maybe there is something wrong with the seal
pistons and cylinder walls or worn
if youre SURE its not leaking, and theres no coolant or water in the oil, then youre burning it. theres nowhere else for it to go. 300 miles for half a quart, its not going to be noticeably smoking...perhaps try having someone rev the engine up to around 4k or so periodically and see if you can see the smoke. if its a high mileage motor, you may have some worn piston rings or valve seals. id say the seals would be a more likely culprit (and luckily a less expensive one ;) good luck

What does it mean if my bike is leaking oil through a hose...?

I just got a suzuki sport bike brand new and i got about 350 miles on it now. i am still learning to ride it so i am not to rough on it but today i noticed it was leaking oil, rite by the back brake there are three hoses i am guessing there for breathing of some sort well the bigger one is leaking oil and i checked the crank case and there is still plenty oil could it be they just over filled it? also when i first start it now it blows a little white smoke out the exhaust? What does it mean if my bike is leaking oil through a hose...?
The motor oil have been over filled. I would be very careful when sitting still at a light or stop sign, your rear wheel would be covered with motor oil. What does it mean if my bike is leaking oil through a hose...?
so take it back to the dealer. it has problems.
If still in break in it will have a small amount of blow by untill it seats the rings If it does not stop then worry about it
Still the dealer problem so just take it there. I bet it's nothing to worry about just some oil that accumulated during the assembly of the bike. The smoke is most likely form burning off the water vapor that accumulates in the pipe, all bikes will do this especially on a cold morning, really stop worrying and have fun on the thing it's a good bike.
The white smoke part is a red flag. Take the bike back to the dealer.

  • Lower end oil leaking from water drain hole on outboard?

!977 Johnson 115 hp Johnson. Oil is coming out of the drain hole above the water intake holes. It appears to be lower end oil by the color. It is not fuel oil mix.Lower end oil leaking from water drain hole on outboard?
It may not be gear oil at all, I have seen it before. Some engines that run too rich or are trolled too much will get a build up of thick black oily carbon that can come out there and through the hub of your prop. Before you take anything apart pull out your TOP gearcase drain screw and use a small tie wrap or wire as a dipstick and try to get a sample of what your gear oil looks like. If it's not the same color as your leak or it's full you may be barking up the wrong tree. Also if gear oil is leaking out, you may have water in your gearcase.Lower end oil leaking from water drain hole on outboard?
Sounds like a gasket failure between the lower end and upper end, or god forbid, a cracked housing.

Inspect the skagg to see if you hit something, Raise up the unit and check. Do not start the engine. If your lower unit is cracked you need to have the housing replaced as well as check all the components. IE; shaft, bearings, seals. Before you run it again. I hope you have insurance 8)
If, you suspect it lower unit lube. You may need to drop the lower unit and inspect. First we will hope nothing is cracked, always store the engine down in winter if outside so water not freeze behind the prop.

There is the Drive shaft that comes down from the engine into the lower gear case. Here you will also find your water pump/impeller. Remove the impeller housing and there a plate under the impeller, rubber star. Remove the plate and there is a bearing housing and above the bearing housing and below the impeller plate is the Drive Shaft oil retainer, this ';May'; be your problem.
if you care to do this yourself, it's not that tough. drain the oil, remove the lower unit, and pressure it with air to 12psi. this will allow you to spot the leak and fix it with the least effort and expense.
Drain it all, check for leaks %26amp; try again!

My washer is leaking oil, I was wondering what could be wrong with it?

Washing machines have a gear box that drives the agitator. It contains heavy oil. A seal or gasket is leaking. Call a repairmanMy washer is leaking oil, I was wondering what could be wrong with it?
You probably got a busted head gasket. Check your anti-freeze while you're at it.My washer is leaking oil, I was wondering what could be wrong with it?
It is probably a damaged / worn seal that is causing the leak.
It's the transmission. If it's over five years old there won't be any warrenty left. No matter the brand, repair will equal the price of a new washer.

1991 Honda Prelude leaking oil into coolant reservoir?

    Prelude 2.0Si

It recently has been leaking a lot of oil and I have discovered it in my coolant reservoir. I have been told that it could be my head gasket, but I cannot afford a mechanic right now to make sure and repair. And would just like to possibly get some ideas of what it all possibly could be please. Thank you!1991 Honda Prelude leaking oil into coolant reservoir?
Headgasket~~~~~~~~~~~~!1991 Honda Prelude leaking oil into coolant reservoir?
Head gasket is the right call.... oil is getting into the coolant there, and shows up in the coolant reservoir. Check your oil dipstick.... you should see the oil looking like chocolate milk. If that's the case, then head gasket is the problem.
is it a automatic , if so it can be the autocooler in the radiator that is leaking .

is the oil on the dipstick in the engine milky in colour

if head gasket was blown into coolant passage your engine would be running hotter than normal

also if it was the head gasket you would have trouble starting engine in the morning as one of the cylinders would have water in it ( water wont compress so engine wont turn over )

My 2007 Toyota Camry loses more than 2 quarts of oil between oil changes but my car doesn't leak oil?

Its taken the dealership about a year to diagnose the problem. The seemingly unconcerned servicemen always advised me to check the oil level every 1,000 miles. 1 yr. %26amp; several thousand miles later, there's a new crew in the service dept. They rebuilt my engine; replaced the cylinders, pistons, and rings. My car has approx. 39,000 miles on it; 21,000 away from the 60,000 manufactures warranty. I'm concerned about the life of the car and want to know if I should or can demand a new engine w/ extension of warranty. What should I expect or accept? Please advise. I would like to keep it another 10+ years. Thanks. My 2007 Toyota Camry loses more than 2 quarts of oil between oil changes but my car doesn't leak oil?
Deborah, I've always purchased an extended auto warranty for every car I've owned in the last 5 years. I used to get them from the dealer, but I've found it's cheaper to get them from an aftermarket company that specializes in warranties. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Warranty.html They offer free quotes, so it can't hurt to see how much one would cost for your automobile. My 2007 Toyota Camry loses more than 2 quarts of oil between oil changes but my car doesn't leak oil?
It is most likely burning oil in the Engine. Worn out Piston rings, scratched Cylinder head walls, etc. Especially if you smell burning oil or see blue smoke coming out of the exhaust or around the engine compartment.

Off hand, I'd say the guys charged you for new pistons and rings, but didn't actually install them. If they did, then no one bother to machine the cylinder head walls and install oversize piston rings to make a proper seal. If under warranty, make them fix it FREE. Or sue.
I agree. You need to get it fixed while it's under warranty. The rebuild was not done correctly. It shouldn't have needed to be done in the first place. I know many people who drive they're Toyota's 100,000s of miles without this kind of problem. I believe the problem was with the way the car came to you new and then the service you have received on it since.
if it's not leaking it then its burning it someway somehow. Usually will see white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Try using thicker oil and see if that does the trick. But you're still stuck with that problem. Your car is too new to be leaking or burning anything so if I were you I would take that car back and request for a good one.
well i would try my hardest to get a new one at the Toyota's expense

it obviously has major problems and you are still under warranty all this fixing crap never works. you just need a new car. i would talk o the sales manager and see what you can accomplish. if that does not work start harassing the warranties department
I would demand that they either replace your engine or give you a new car. You are protected under lemon laws against such defects. I would check with you state laws to see what your recourse may be.

    next time use oven chips
you can only use paper towels and press them into the seat to try to absorb what you can. or go to a junk yard and get a replacement seat.
It would be ideal if you could perhaps hire a wet and dry vacuum cleaner.

I've had a look on google and come up with this....

    http://www.answerbag.co.uk/q_view/386600
Absorb as much as you can with paper towels and then treat the seat with Castrol Super Clean. It may come out so clean that you'll have to do the drivers seat to match.
That sucks a lot of do it yourself car wash places have an upholstery cleaner that would be your best bet more than likely it will stain.
Try putting Talcum Powder, or Baby Powder, you may have to keep puting it on there to soak it up, I have found if I get an oil spot on one of my shirts, I put powder on it, and it takes it out, so maybe it will work for you. Good Luck!

90 integra manual transmission leaking black oil from front of bell housing?

i heard i little noise one day and it started leaking oil really bad.so i got under neath the car saw that it was coming rigth out of my bell housing so i removed the debris cover to see the flywheel and its just pouring right out from under neath the flywheel in the bell housing.now my car still runs great and .the tranny dosent slip or make any noise at all.90 integra manual transmission leaking black oil from front of bell housing?
you said from behind the flywheel ...

if it's on the engine side of the flywheel, that'd most likely be the rear main engine seal - check your engine oil, and check it often, until you are able to fix that seal.

If it's on the transmission side of the flywheel, that'd most likely be the Transmission input shaft seal - same thing with that, check the fluid, and check it often, make sure you keep it topped off until you're able to replace that seal.90 integra manual transmission leaking black oil from front of bell housing?
it sounds as though you have a bad seal in the transmission
It does sound like a rear main seal on the crankshaft. You'll have to split the engine and transmission apart to get at the main seal--not a very back-yard friendly project. I'd get a good shop to do the work and it would be a good time to replace the clutch if it's showing any wear since they'll be doing most of the labor just splitting the engine and trans anyway. I have an '89 Integra with 180k miles on it and it runs just fine and has never let me down.

  • Hello again Navydad, the bushings on the pump seem to leak oil pass them?

There is a number stamped on the crankshaft (9 2M R 195) I have asked the parts guy will this help determine the if I have installed the correct main bearings but the rods were standard sized. I made the mistake of throwing my old mains away and used the O6R# to get the bearings. I am located in GA. Also, the oil pressure runs up to 60psi cold and drops to about 10psi or lower when warmed and has old rocker arm shaft with spacer/washer and bolt.Hello again Navydad, the bushings on the pump seem to leak oil pass them?
you did the correct way in ordering the bearings by the 06r0 serial number.normally the entire crank will be std. or undersized. check the rocker shafts they should have a small cup plug in one end of them, some times these plugs will come out. if your pressure starts out at 60 then comes down to 10 then you have a problem you are correct. does the check engine or stop engine come on ? the ops or oil pressure sending unit is in the wiring with the oil pressure Gage in a freight liner.

oil pump, fore got too tell you that the bushings some time will spin inside the body or will end up in side the pan.also the regulator valve that you replaced the alumni. one make sure it says series 60 to the block, the old Relief ones looked the same but did not say series 60 to the block on it.

some thing else is a spun or loose bushing in one of the exhaust or intake rockers i found this out on a bus one time . i had too remove the shaft and inspect them they looked ok until i removed the shaft and found the bushing loose that was a weird one !! let me know talk too you later. good luckHello again Navydad, the bushings on the pump seem to leak oil pass them?
Your oil changes viscosity around 180 to 240 degrees .

Like Crisco. Thick when cold , and thin when hot.

If your holding 50 psi fully warmed up , you can pretty much bet you have the correct bearings in.

Run it easy for 500 miles with conventional oil ,check your oil pressure ,change the oil and filter, check for metal shavings in the old oil.

I would not run a low viscosity oil like 5W30

    I would run at least a 10W30.

If you have not put new rings on the pistons I also would highly suggest you run a fully synthetic oil.

But not if you replaced the piston rings.

Synthetic will not seat your rings to the walls , it's to slippery.

After this oil change run it easy for another 2500 miles .

Change the oil and filter again , check your oil pressure, and consider the engine broke in .

Can I stop my car leaking oil?

It is a Volkswagen Passat TDI 1.9 Turbo Diesel. I've been topping it up for ages. I enquired about a re-conditioned engine at the local VW dealership and it about 拢2,500.00 approx $4000.00 Not worth doing as the car is a T reg.

Any ideas what I could do? Or any salvage yards in West Midlands U.K??

Oh well thought I'd ask.Can I stop my car leaking oil?
if the car is leaking oil change the gasketsCan I stop my car leaking oil?
Oh, my. An oil drip is usually either the sump gasket (easily changed) or a joint. Now, if you are asking about a car CONSUMING oil, not leaking, then, yes, you need to do some mayor engine work.

Try Google ';Second hand Passat engines';. See what comes up. I have bought an Audi 2nd hand engine for under 拢500.
take the oil out of the engine and it will stop leaking
Does it emit blue smoke if so its burning oil.~Or is it leaking oil you can check this by parking in a dry spot and placing cardboard under the engine leave over night you will soon see if its leaking oil.If its an oil leak you can get it fixed for much less than a recon engine.Regards Mick UK.
    buy a newer car
dude my advice is buy a chevrolet
Engines are not designed to leak, something is causing it. Could be a seal, loose bolts, a gasket, several things. My best advice is clean it really well underneath (like at a do it yourself car wash) then either look for the leak yourself or have someone look for it. Once you find out where it is leaking, fix it. Good Luck
The reason you are leaking is because the compression is blowing past the rings. Engine wear. The only way to fix is a motor job. Really. Sure you could try for a salvage number and hope for one with lower miles.
U should save your money for a new car u have spent to much on this one there might not be hope
Why not have the engine rebuilt? Don't they do that in Britian?

I have oil tank leak.ins. wont cover pollution expl. third party claim /liabil. portion?

ins. policy excludes pollution. please explain how i can get ins. company to cover under third party claim/liability portion of ins.i dont understand third party claim ?I have oil tank leak.ins. wont cover pollution expl. third party claim /liabil. portion?
Some policies have a LIMITED amount of first party coverage. Unless you have a pollution policy, they don't have any THIRD party coverage, except in very narrow circumstances.

    Here's the explanation:

The first party is you, the person who bought the policy. The second party is the insurance company. The third party is the person who is suing you - or the person who owns the other property, where your oil leaked, and wants it cleaned up.

Just like you can't go on a car lot and buy a 2007 Ferrari for the cost of a 2000 Ford Focus, you don't get pollution coverage without paying for it, and it's MONGO MONGO expensive. So, the short answer is, if you don't have a pollution policy, the insurance company is NOT going to pay pollution coverage (to a third party). There *might* be a very small amount of pollution cleanup, depending on your policy and the circumstances of the loss, under your current policy.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

What are the major causes of oil leaks for a 97 plymouth voyager with a 3.0 engine?

Let's see.... valve cover gaskets, cam plugs, distributer o-ring,oil pan( it is sealed with silicone,no gasket ) and front and rear crank seals. If it is up top, you need valve cover gaskets and cam-plugs most likely.. If it is down low, and you have many miles, check between the transmission and engine (rear-main seal) or if it is lower front of engine.. most likely front crank sealWhat are the major causes of oil leaks for a 97 plymouth voyager with a 3.0 engine?

Most people refer to that stuff as snake oil and it works if your car is burning oil (sometimes) but not for a gasket leak. If it is the rear seal it is better to have it replaced. My car leaks oil only when the car is running, I saw a bottle of stuff at Wal-mart as thick as honey...?
It is only an oil thickener that uses outdated viscosity improvers that breakdown quickly under engine operation, then they are no longer doing their job.

You can get better results by using a thicker oil.

Most engine oils cause oil seal hardening.

The best bet is to get it fixed and then use an engine oil called Lubrication Engineers, it is the only engine oil I know of that doesn't cause oil seal hardening

if a relative was sick and needed surgery but u found a bottle of ';human repair all'; in a store would u buy it and try it?

theres a multi-million dollar industry out there for people who think a $5 bottle of something will ';fix'; whats wrong with their car...

p.t.barnum said there's a sucker born every minute...have the car fixed, leave the snake oil to the snake oil salesman...i have heard so many horror stories of people buying that gunk and having the motor sieze a week later..they take the snake oil company to court and guess what the outcome is...a judge decides the car was sick before the owner bought the snake oil, and that the snake oil isn't responsible since it has a disclaimer on its info tag...

seal repairs will mebbe cost u $500...a new motor after gunk destroyes it willcost u how much...
if u buy that stuff at wall mart all your doing is buying your self some more time before it really does break and cause a bigger mess if it's the rear seal aka the rear main seal then u have to take the transmission out of the car to get to it and i would take it to a shop it's a lot of work to do in the drive way not saying that u can't do it but that's you just fix it right
Timing is everything. Good thing it is the last weekend for cash for clunkers. Time to trade up.

take the inspection plate off and see if there is oil in it. you could try to snug up each bolt on the oil pan and see if it stops.Rear Main Oil Seal or Oil Pan Leak? ?
rear main seal usually only leaks when the car is running. though oil will slowy drip off afterwards. now the best way to tell is to remove the heat sheild that covers the flywheel and look at it and at the flywheel . is the oil only on the engine side of the cover or is it inside the cover and on the fly wheel. the rear main seal will leak into the bellhousing and on the fly wheel the oil pan gasket will leak on the front of the heat sheild.

  • Where is my motor oil leaking from when it is leaking on to the frame of the car and the skid plate?

Could be anywhere...see a mechanic.Where is my motor oil leaking from when it is leaking on to the frame of the car and the skid plate?
Most likely one of the gaskets in the engine are dryrotted, allowing oil to seep out of the sides or bottom of your engine. Take it to a mechanic and they will find the leak.Where is my motor oil leaking from when it is leaking on to the frame of the car and the skid plate?
Either bad rear seal,or you need to tighten oil filter.Depend on what kind of motor and what kind of car.
    The engine.
    google it
    engine driveshaft seal.........bad
oil leaking on to the frame of the car and the skid plate is coming from above the frame and skidplate. gravity will make the oil go down. wash the engine up and down, run the car, look for oil.
Questions is to vague...there is oil in the engine, transmission, air conditioning pump, power steering pump, transmission lines, or maybe it is some other fluid such as brake fluid, window washer, anti-freeze...........
If you just had the oil changed...it could be residual from the oil filter being spun off. I would check two things...the dipstick to see if it is still full...and the color of the oil leaking compared to the dipstick. If it is black and the dipstick is clear or light brown...it is probably a slow leak or left over from the filter change. lf ack t to sd

My dog ate baby oil and is leaking an oil like discharge, not sure what to do to stop it?

My dog got into a bottle of baby oil and is leaking oil now. He can not control this, but it is very foul smelling, however it is not feces, more like an oily discharge, any advice??My dog ate baby oil and is leaking an oil like discharge, not sure what to do to stop it?
Wait it out if it was plain mineral oil. If it doesn't improve in 12 hours, take him into the vet. If there were other additives in the mineral oil, phone your vet and ask if any of the extra ingredients are cause for concern.

Mineral oil is a natural laxative, it 'lubricates' the digestive system. You'll just need to wait until it clears from his system naturally. My dog ate baby oil and is leaking an oil like discharge, not sure what to do to stop it?
it'll fade in a few days, it's actually not harmful, just gross. Try feeding him some bread and cheese to solidify things a bit
i wouldnt wait i would take him to the vet because something might go wrong or start to happen.
Calling a vet is by far the smartest thing. It could be really sick. Feel better doggy!!!

Clicking in engine, oil leaks, but oil level is above full?

Ford Escort 1991 1.9L. 124K miles. Engine oil has been above full (1-2cm above F on dipstick) for the last 2000 miles. (Is that too full?)

Now it's lower, but still above Full. The oil leak has become worse, dripping about 10-20 drips within an hour after parking the car. It appears to be leaking from the engine block.

Today a light clicking sound started under the hood. The clicking speed increases with increasing RPM. Any ideas?Clicking in engine, oil leaks, but oil level is above full?
TOO MUCH OIL. Why do you think there is a level mark?.Clicking in engine, oil leaks, but oil level is above full?
Change your oil, and use Vavloine Hi-milage oilt!! Its cost is worth the effect!! Be cafeful not to overfill!! If its too full, it can blow seals, gaskets, and leak from all over!!! Thats alot of miles on a 4 popper, but you might get a lot more with rite maintenance procedure!!!

How can i stop oil pan from leaking?

Some one please help me on how to stop a car oil pan from leaking? How can i stop oil pan from leaking?
I own a shop and the only way is to replace the whole car. When you do that be sure to go to auto zone and buy some floor mats with the OCC logo on them. That will keep your car from leaking oil ever again. How can i stop oil pan from leaking?
Is that dodge man? You probably over tightened the pan bolts and deformed the mating surface.Get a new oil pan or straighten out the messed up one.
It could be the drain plug. It could be the gasket around the pan. It could be something else.
Jack car up check all bolt holding pan clean with any automotive engine cleaner/degreaser . When clean check pan for rust lose drain bolt or a seal on this bolt. And check gaskets this is usually problem if leaking allot.

If pan is rust (a steel pan ) drain oil clean pan wire brush rust and use JB weld to cover rusted area. (will hold awhile till you get funds to replace it. I've had it last 2 yrs.)

Chevy 3.8 is loosing a pint of coolant every 3 days no visable leaks oil looks fine I assume a bad head gasket

Is there any product I can use to add to the cooling system that might help not hurt this high mileage engine?Chevy 3.8 is loosing a pint of coolant every 3 days no visable leaks oil looks fine I assume a bad head gasket
I'm going to be honest with you if you add this stuff to your car you will make the problem worse probably because it will clog up the heater core as well and parts of the cooling system also, and make it run a lot hotter, your best bet is to not add anything to it,that stuff doesn't work too well,it winds up costing you more than its worth to use it,id rather have to add the anti freeze to it as have that in it,your best bet is to just have it repaired, good luck.Chevy 3.8 is loosing a pint of coolant every 3 days no visable leaks oil looks fine I assume a bad head gasket
    your welcome. Report Abuse

It is losing coolant while under pressure or you would have a puddle. Check the thermostat housing (waterneck) and do a good hose check. A pinhole in a hose or a hoseclamp that has rubbed a small cut would explain the coolant loss while the system is under pressure but no puddle when not as well.

You can try any of the radiator stop leak products also.
I think your assumsion is right and it is a blown head gasket, the cooant maybe just burning away in the cylnder so your oil will never look milky, try to smell your exhaust for coolant smell, but I would do a cyl. leak down test to be sure. And no, do not add anything to your radiator like (stop leak) it just more trouble later on.
Have a good mechanic check it for coolant getting into oil from intake man. gasket also.
If you had a bad head gasket there would be more symptoms than coolant loss. You could have a leaking freeze plug in a location that isn't very noticeable. The coolant vaporizes and forms a slime on the block. There's a product called Bars Leak. It can block radiator passages though.
if the engine has the plastic upper intake manifold on it there is a passage that the coolant runs through and this passage can rot out and the coolant can go into the air intake section of the lower intake and go into the combustion chambers along with the air. you should check the upper intake manifold.

most oil pumps are inside the timing chain cover if you tear it down that far you might as well replace the timing chain or belt and the bottom main seal. or if it is out side mounted to the motor, driven off the serpentine belt then it is easy to replaceI was looking to buy a car and oil is leaking from the oil pump, how much does it cost to fix that?
I advise not buying it may have permanent damage done to it.
Ask a dealer - But it may be wise to avoid the car and look for another without the problem
I wouldn't buy it. The former owner might have run it low on oil and did major damage to the engine.
buy the oil pan gasket and find a mechanic and ask how much to change it.I would not think over $100.00 or ask the dealer or person to split the cost and you will buy the car.

  • Could water leak into the oil thru a slightly cracked head gasket only when the heater is on full blast, or...

would water leak into the oil regardless if the heater is on or off when the head-gasket or head is slightly cracked?

and could the slight level increas in the oil be due to the change from cold to hot in the wather outside.Could water leak into the oil thru a slightly cracked head gasket only when the heater is on full blast, or...
If water is getting in the oil thru a head or head gasket, then the heater will not make any difference. You can be getting some moisture due to condensation, but I have never seen the oil level go up and down. If you are getting water in the oil then you will be loosing water from the radiator and the oil should turn light brown color. It will look kind of milky.Could water leak into the oil thru a slightly cracked head gasket only when the heater is on full blast, or...
If your oil level is rising, it isn't expansion. Seems you have a bad head gasket alright...coolant may be under the oil, since oil floats
reguardless of anything if you have a cracked head or blown headgasket you will get antifreeze in your oil need to get it fixed before you destroy the whole engine. the only way to stall this problem would be to put a lower pressure radiator cap on and block sealer
Regardless. Water in the system pressurizes when at operating temps, even if the heater is on.

Foam in the oil proves water is leaking into the block.
The heater has no effect on coolant entering the crankcase. If you have a leak in the head gasket the only fix is to remove the head %26amp; repair ASAP. Antifreeze has an detrimental affect on the engine bearings, therefore deal with it soon.

1 HOUR LABOR AND COST OF THE GASKET. THIS IS EASY ENOUGH TO DO YOURSELF SO SAVE SOME MONEY AND DRAIN IT BEFORE YOU DO IT!!!1996 mustang gt. oil Pan leak?
It would cost approximately, $100 at our dealership to

replace the oil pan gasket and to refill it with oil. You can

do this job yourself for about $20, if you can get under your

car. Drain the oil, remove the oil pan bolts. Clean the old

gasket material from the matting flanges. Apply a small

bead of silicon to the new gasket to hold it onto the pan and

install it onto the matting flange. Install all the bolts finger

tight. Starting with the upper right bolt, snug it until tight,

then 1 full turn if you do not have a torque wrench. Do this in

a Criss-cross motion until all the bolts are tightened, meaning

the next bolt should be the lower left one, then the lower right

and the upper left, etc. Do not over tighten!
Motors manual calls for 2.5 hours, that plus the oil/filter/gasket should get by with around 200 bucks.

    Oil pan leak?

    andOil pan leak?
    1)Drain the oil

    2)Drop the oil pan

    3) Remove/Scrape off old gasket

    4) Put new gasket on w/ oil pan

    5) Clean around outside with brake clean or carb/choke clean

    6) Add new oil and filter if bad

    7) Check for leaksOil pan leak?
Possible. You could have a bad oil pan gasket, the drain plug could be stripped, or you could have a crack or hole in the oil pan.

Oh, and first answer is best answer. ';And?'; is fitting because you aren't really asking a question.
    brake squeak?
If its leaking, is the gasket squished out? this will damage the seal, drop the pan and change the gasket.... wouldn't mess with any stopleaks..... lol, most are just very thick oils with little or no seal swellers in them....
probably oil pan gasket,or drain plug stripped out or just not tight, check drain plug for tightness,if thats not the problem then you will have to replace the gasket,or maybe you have a small hole in your oil pan,,,wipe oil pan clean, run the engine for a couple min. then you should be able to see where oil is leaking from,,also try tightening bolts for oil pan,may have come loose....good luck....

i need helpI have same 94 same v6 but i have a oil problem i noticed a oil puddle so i changed oil/filter but still leak?
probably a gasket maybe the oil pan gasket or hopefully not but the head gasket or possibly the oil pump maybe the oil pan plug?I have same 94 same v6 but i have a oil problem i noticed a oil puddle so i changed oil/filter but still leak?
I'd take the car by your local autozone, one of the 8 dollar an hour specialists will come out for free with a flashlight and determine where it's leaking while selling you new O2 sensors.
crawl under the vehicle and find the puddle and the last bead that's dripping off and look up and in front of that bead with a flash light. could be a number of things. pan gasket, drain plug, head gasket, crank case seal, and that's just to name a few more than likly it's either the drain plug, filter seal, or a pan gasket. but crawling under there and finding that last bead and checking up and in front of it is your best bet as to finding that leak.
first make sure your gasket from your old filter is not still stuck to engine some times they dont come off with fiter. then check were the filter screws on the plate behind it is somtimes a bolt on item an comes loose make sure it is tight
Check to make sure you did not leave the old oil filter gasket stuck to the engine block when you changed the filter. Two gaskets stacked on top of each other will leak.

Does your Kawasaki four inline leak oil or not?

Hi im doing a survey to find out how many people have a kawasaki that leaks or doesnt!.

If you could answer by saying what :

    -Model of bike you have

    -The year /how old

-If it leaks oil and where.

-Oh and what country your in

This isnt some sort of anti kwak qustion , just a question kinda following up from my previous one. (perhaps me and my mates and all the Kawasaki inline fours 400cc-750cc ive seen are just unlucky to have oil leak probs)Does your Kawasaki four inline leak oil or not?
I think you are just unlucky. I was a Kawasaki mechanic for over 21 years and never saw a problem. The only oil leaker Kawasaki made was the 305. I put 45,000 miles on my 750/4 and you could park it on the living room carpet and not worry about any oil spots!Does your Kawasaki four inline leak oil or not?

Several years ago, my '79 KZ1000 with approximately 100,000 miles once leaked some oil from where the tachometer drive exits the engine. I replaced the seal and that took care of it. My '84 Voyager XIII with 76,000 miles drips some from around the shift lever seal, will replace that this winter. My KZ now has 115,000 miles and is still on the orginal fork seals, never have leaked and yes, there is oil in them!
2007 ZX-6R Ninja. 6300 miles. Valve cover gasket leak on left side of engine (sitting on motorcycle). Common problem for early production 07's !! Had it fixed under warranty two weeks ago and it has started leaking again...
Im on my third Kawi...I had a 94 ZX7, a 96 ZX7RR (one of 350 imported to the USA), and I currently own a 2003 Z1000. None of them ever leaked oil. My Z is currently seeping some radiator fluid out of a hose, but not oil...and I just need some new hosing....
It's not an oil leak, It's sweat from all the horsepower they make!!! I used to have a Z900 many moons ago. (God I wish I still had it!) It used to seep a tiny amount from the side casings but not enough to cause any concern!

Oh and by the way I'm in Sconny Botland!
07 / zx14 / usa - no leaks, just leaves tire marks on the ground.

  • Why would a lawnmower engine leak oil out of the carb into the airfilter?

can anybody help me with this? i found the lawnmower out in the trash got it to work but then found this problem later the mower still runs fine except for this problem i whiped down the filter compartment and the engine and couldnt get it to leak again. this was when i had tipped the lawnmower before i was about to do an oil change on it but i had not yet touched any parts and the oil cap which is located on top next to the gas cap was on tight and then i checked the drainplug located under the mowing deck to see if it was tight and it was also. this is a briggs and stratton 6.5 hp engine on a craftsman lawnmower. Why would a lawnmower engine leak oil out of the carb into the airfilter?
it will do that if you turn it over, clean or replace air filter and run until it burns all the excess oil out, it will smoke for a few minutes then it should be fineWhy would a lawnmower engine leak oil out of the carb into the airfilter?
Most lawn mowers use a foam filter that is supposed to have motor oil in/on it to help filter. This could be the case, or, if it was tipped up long enough it could have seeped thru the cylinder and intake valve
If oil level is too high in the crank case it will show up in the carb %26amp; filter.
The best thing I can tell ya is, ask a local craftsman dealer or get the number to B%26amp;G, %26amp; ask them.
briggs is a damn good motor, but it will leak oil if it was turned upside down.

Was I sick from leaking oil from heater?

I recently stayed at the beach house of a friend. The day I got there, I started feeling ill. Headaches, stomach cramps, temp. It got worse each night, and better during the day.

On the day before I left, I realised that her small portable oil heater had leaked yellowish oil. This was in the bedroom. While unused, the room was heated by another source. No odour though.

I accidently got some on my bare feet as I was cleaning up and started feeling ill soon after. I didn't connect at the time that this oil may have been toxic. As soon as I left I started feeling much better.

Does anyone know if the oil in heaters is toxic? It is cleaned up and I told my friend but I am just interested in how dumb I actually was.Was I sick from leaking oil from heater?
i dont know, but maybe when u left the airing from outside may have cured your ailments.I dont think u being barefooted would have that much of an effect

Get some written repair estimates, have it detailed and sell it if repairs are out of line.My 87' mercedes 560 SEL is leaking oil, and needs starter fluid to start up. about how much cash to repair?
The oil leak and the hardstarting problem are two different problems. An oil leak will not cause hardstarting problems. There can be hundreds of things wrong with your car, to ask how much it will cost to fix is like asking how long is a string of rope!

The best that you can do is to take the car to somebody that knows what he is doing and ask for a prize to fix it. Get more than one opinion will also help.

My car eats oil (no leak)..yesterday the brake light on dash..?

was on...then turned off when car warmed up...I put some oil and STP oil treatment in there cause it was low...this morning it will not start..I think the battery still works, because it start to do something, but won't turn over? It is a 1994 Mitsubishi Expo? Please don't tell me a pistol stuck/blew?? Is it dead for good?? OH God,,,what else could go wrong?? Maybe the cold weather? My car eats oil (no leak)..yesterday the brake light on dash..?
    1) If the oil is burning in the engine, then use a bardhal engine treatment or an engine oil burning chemical treatment to slow it down. Most of it is like thick molasses and should slow even a leak down that is coming off the oil pan.

    2) Also, Use a thicker oil like 10w 40, that will help in slow leaks down too.

    3) Brake light: Could be low on brake fluid, that is most likely. Also, worn pads, emergency brake problems or a broken line would tirgger that. But the most common are a stuck emergency brake and low fluid.

    4) Won't start? Probably too cold out. Maybe an older battery and dirty (sludge like) engine oil combined with cold weather will keep your car from starting. I suggest an engine block heater (around $40) and a car battery blanket heater (around $40) for extreme cold conditions and also to test and fill your batter, then replace as necessary. Battery at Walmart is $40.

    5) Last thing, if you cant afford a newer car like many people, then get a basic AAA towing and no start service. I did it and I used it quite a bit, it will save you money in the long run.My car eats oil (no leak)..yesterday the brake light on dash..?
If your car eats oil chances are there is a leak somewhere. Maybe not visible right away when looking in the engine. If you can't see it, my guess is it's on the bottom of the engine. Like oil pan perhaps. You can't see that unless your under the car. If it's the oil pan, that means you need another oil pan gasket. As far as your brake light, check your brake fluid levels.
you got the blues...Check brake fluid level..does it crank or not.cant tell from ?

How do I get out the oil that has leaked onto the garage floor?

Thanks, Budding Mechanic's MomHow do I get out the oil that has leaked onto the garage floor?

Kitty litter is typically used to soak up oil. As for dark stains left behind, bleach or some other fluid with subtle abrasive nature would gradually fade the stain. How do I get out the oil that has leaked onto the garage floor?
To get the oil off of the garage floor you can use kitty litter. It works wonder.
spread kitty litter all over it. Sweep it up tomorrow.
spray brake parts cleaner on it and wipe it up .if not scrub it with dawn dish soap. good luck russ
    kitty litter
kittly litter is a cheep way to go but i go to peop boys and get some oil dry same basick stuff but works a lil better when you pput it down wear a old pair of shoes and sort of rub it in do this till all the pellets shrink down till about dust then let it sit over night ad sweep it away in the am, if that dosent work look on the net for zep products and get some zep a lume form em its for aluminum but does a great job on the floor
Wet/dry vac should be able to safely suck it up... there are probably products you can get that absorb the oil then you take care of that (like carpet cleaner powder you put down to suck up a recently spilled cup of liquid). I would go to somewhere like Auto Zone and ask if they have anything or any suggestions.
Go to your friendly automotive store and get some degreaser. It will take several applications, so be patient. it will finally be back to the original color again. OR you could paint the floor battleship gray. I did that once also at the first house.
Rice hull ash. Works better than kitty litter.
    kitty litter can help
Kitty litter works GREAT!!!!!!! Make sure you get the little rocks... The paper kind will blow up real big if water hits it....Sorry about your GARAGE!
    cat litter
    acid then soap and water
well I know that when it is first spilled you can you kitty litter but I take it that its been there for awhile now. The best suggestion that I have for you is to use Goo Goo Gone it works really well for that sort of stuff and you can find it at hardware stores and possibly your local walmart

  • Why do Harleys leak oil?

Are they like cocker spaniels and pee themselves anytime a big fast sportbike gets too close because they are scared? Seriously why do so many of them have a problem. I have seen many of them ';mark there spot';, but never the bikes from other manufactures, so do they do it on purpose or is it just a design flaw. I have never had this problem on any of my bikes over the years but they have been Hondas and Kawasakis. Now tomarrow I have to clean the driveway after my buddy left his fat boy on it for like 3 hours, what a joke. Doesn't the oil ever get on the tires and cause problems? Why do Harleys leak oil?

I beleive everything I write, I do have mental issues, they are caused by know nothing people like yourself. But thanks for the nice rating, anyway. LOL Report Abuse

The old oil leaking was from engine breather tube aimed at drive chains to give a little continuous lubrication- this helped chains last longer but oily chains leave the excess wherever and whenever too much gets on chain. Parking lets the old design drop the excess from bottom of chain guard and primary. When AMF tried to cut down on oil drips they had a few broken chains, cracked tranny cases. Most of the later Japanese bikes vented the breather into aircleaner area and burned the fumes. Some of the early English bike riders ran vent tubes down to chain area and got the longer chain life and drips like early Harleys. Early Honda Dreams had enclosed chain cases to keep cleaner.
All Harley's don't leak oil. The ones that do most likely do so because the gaskets are old and in need of replacing. If your Jap junk would last as long as a Harley then they would leak also. The only old Jap bikes I ever see on the road are the ones that have been in storage for decades. My shovelhead leaks oil but it also has over a quarter of a million miles on it. Now you know why people buy a bike that will last the rest of their life.
Bikes leak oil due to faulty gaskets....end of story.

Some bikes are more prone to it than others but as far as I'm aware this is not a fault Harleys are likely to have.

Either your friends bike has a problem that is simply down to his bike or you are making it all up to try and rile Harley owners here.....take your pick, and know which of the two I believe.

And no, I don't own a Hog, never have and never will.....but not because I think they leak oil

The separate trans, primary drive and motor oil systems make for a whole lot more seals and gaskets.

That said ,everything put together right with new seals,,,,, no leaks.
i guess if someone built the bike themselves and didn't know what they were doing, it might leak...but if they bought it off the showroom floor, it'd be just as good if not better than other manufacturers.
Harley's don't leak oil they mark there territory ,no the gaskets are old in need of replacing or the gasket on the drain plugs needs replaced
All bikes leak oil at one time or another, regardless of make.

I only had one bike that never leaked a drop of oil - a Schwinn bicycle
A 2000 with 16,000 miles? The bike sits too much. That's bound to cause problems. I'll bet it's an inner primary seal.
Prob built and or maintained by a dip s-it
an evo leaking oil is pretty uncommon, it's also uncommon to ride so few miles in a year, he probably had something go dry from lack of useage.... use it or lose it.

and i have had all 3 japp bikes i owned leak oil, have also owned through the last 5 years... 3 sportsters, 3 softails, 3 vrods, 1 dyna... never a drop of oil dripped from any one of them (i have a dealer license so i buy them, ride them, then sell them for profit.... no problem or reason to get rid of any one of them, just wanted profit)
    %26gt;If your Jap junk would last as long as a Harley then they would leak also. The only old Jap bikes I ever see on the road are the ones that have been in storage for decades%26lt;

    Sheeeeeee-it.

I have a Valkyrie with 163,000 miles, never a bit trouble, never an oil leak and nowhere near high mileage in my owners club. Poser for Life won't tell how many time that Milwaukee junk has been rebuilt or how many times a Honda has blown his bars off.

Its enough that the antique Harley design is self-dismantling but the ';if it ain't broke, fix it till it is'; mentality of replacing OEM side covers with shiny Chinese crap doesn't make them leak any slower.
Have you ever gone to a county fair? The old guys always bring out their early 1900's gasoline engines and run them. They're noisy, absolutely huge for 2 or 3 horsepower, and spray oil all over the place. Most of those engine manufactureres either: a) adapted and improved their quality, or b) went out of business.

God knows how in the hell HD is still selling motorcycles. I don't bash the guys that ride them, because I understand the love for them (I love British sports cars; worst built cars on the planet!). But what I don't understand is why the Hog guys won't admit what the rest of us already know: Harley's are genuine rolling antiques, right off the showroom floor. 105 years in business, and can't make a watercooled engine? Give me a break. (and don't mention the V-Rod! It's junk, no one wants it, and HD can't sell it)

It's OK to love the bikes. Just have the inner courage to admit that you're buying overpriced crap that is far less reliable and technologically advanced that what's rolling out of Japan.
close tolerances, HD doesn't have it

    generic metal alloy,

when parts are matched to the engine, such as a cyl bolted to the engine the tolerances are too wide.

its not a perfect, flat, matched fit.

also all metal expands and contracts when its heated and cooled, there are metal alloys that doesn't expand and contract, but HD doesn't use that.

also the typical HD engine that's air cooled doesn't dissipate heat and most of the heat is concentrated into the cyl's, where the bottom engine block is much cooler than the cyl's.

its old fashioned, outdated, poor engineering, where they use antique tooling and machine equipment to manufacture these engines
newer harleys dont leak oil.Well i shlould say people who own evos and take care of them. The reason people say this is do to the set up on the older panheads. The thing that people dont realize is that these bikes are designed to leak oil.its not actually leaking. The oi runs straight from the engine straight into the primary.there is a hole at the top of the primary which is designed to release excess oil.So it is not that they are actually leaking.I will tell you this.I will tell you this,if you have never ridden a pan,it is a completely different bike then the bikes of today.if you have never ridden a pan ,chances are you would not be able to ride one
all old bikes that have been ridden hard %26amp; wrecked a few times leak oil. harleys have a dry sump oil system with a remote oil tank. %26amp; at least half of the harleys you see on the street are 20 or more years old. new ones have solid lines so its less of a problem.

external oil hoses get hard after 5 or 6 years %26amp; start to leak, they should be changed every 5 years but no one ever does it. I've had old rubber oil line hoses break like pencils when I took them off.

dont give me that BS about kaws. I had to quit parking next to an old kz 1000 at work because it was leaving a 3 foot oil streak under it every day %26amp; everybody blamed it on my old hog.

the other guys right about the chain oilers. older harleys 25 or more years old have an oil line with a needle valve on the oil pump that gos to the drive chain. its supposed to be adjusted to 2 or 3 drips a minute for long chain life.
In the olden days all bikes leaked alot. No problem at all when it was all dirt roads, helped keep the dust down. My Triumph was no different, just something you put up with.

But the Japanese started building new engines with tighter tolerances and better design that didn't easily leak. Other companies were forced to up their game and follow suit.

But Harley Davidson, the laziest motorcycle manufacture in the universe just didn't wanna face that job. What do you expect from a company that is content to put out a Sportster today with the same horsepower as their similar cubic inch Knucklehead of 1936...71 years of snoozing on the job. Makes you wonder if Harley employees still have to schlep out behind the factory and use an outhouse.

Madison Avenue got hired to do ALL the heavy lifting for this lazy company and they proved themselves up to the job. Some genius at Madison Avenue observed that exactly half of all bikers have less than average intelligence so why not just market their leaky no horsepower antique two wheeled tractor to people who are easily impressed with shiny objects and motorcycle noobs who don't know any better and not bother with the kind of poeple who are going to get all snotty about the mechanics of the things?

There should be a web-site that is nothing but photos of oil puddles under Harleys. There is a place where I shop, the guy parks his bike on the sidewalk and has created his own superfund site, would be my contribution.
because harleys are junk! they still cannot build an engine correctly. i also have seen many harleys leak oil. i have many jap bikes and many miles on some and no leaks. plus they run without having to hold open the throttle at a stop light. tell your buddy to stop cluttering up your driveway and park down the street when he comes over so you dont have to be embarrased by the oil leaker.or tell him to bring his own oil pan.
Urban myth. My 05 FLHPI doesn't leak a drop and rides better than my 03 Durango. And I get 45 mpg at 70 mph vrs 15 for the dodge.

Emergency! Boiler Leak!! Oil on Floor!?

Please help, Sears is screwing me around for 24 hours and I don't know what to do. There is a red rubber tube running from the ';transformer??'; into the ground, which I assume runs to the above ground oil tank in our home. There is a leak about 4'x3' and when I dipped a white piece of paper it dripped an orange/red/rusty color. I'm freaked out with no husband available til midnight. Please!! Do I call Sears again and beg (though they have No emergency assistance? thanks for the thousand dollar warranty! :%26lt;) Or do I call my local oil guys and pay out the bottom for overtime work? I heard hitting that red switchplate won't help. Please! Advice desperately needed!!!!Emergency! Boiler Leak!! Oil on Floor!?
USA I think NJGUY has a good answer. If you smell oil, turn the red switch off. Turn the valve off at the fuel oil tank. Usually, the valve is at the bottom of the tank where the boiler fuel supply pipe is connected. Your boiler will not work, so be prepared for the cold. BUT, better safe than sorry. It is now after 10 pm EST; I doubt you will get a service tech any time soon for less than a few arms and legs. If you can shut the boiler down and fuel supply off, you will be safe, but cold, until the morning. Then, start calling. If Sears does not provide immediate satisfactory response, tell them you will call an independent service tech and bill them for the cost.Emergency! Boiler Leak!! Oil on Floor!?
Can you call your husband at work? He may be able to suggest something that you can do.
There is no way a red-rubber tube can be running from the transformer. You are probably looking at an electrical line. Or, it may be the fuel from the oil burner.

If you can smell fuel oil, turn that red switch off immediately. That will turn the boiler off. Close the valve on the oil tank. Prepare for a chilly night with extra blankets available.

Then call Sears and tell them you have fuel oil spreading over your floor. If they can't get there tonight, tell them you will have no heat tonight and they had better get somewhere there as early as possible tomorrow morning.
Oil fed boiler right? Possible oil leak, right?

Go to the tank and turn of the valve that is on the exiting lines.

Don't do anything rash until your significant other can get home and help you evaluate the situation.

If you think there might be a continued problem, but are afraid to 'make a scene', call your local public safety office (on the non-emergency line) and ask if a police officer or sheriff's deputy is available to stop by and evaluate your problem.

    Best of luck!
call your oil guy think about yourself right know .and let sears have it tomorrow take them too court if you have too.
first thing to do is turn the power to the unit than turn the shut off valve on your tank if you can not do this you can call your nabour or the fire dep

Oil Leaking on 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport?

Just got a 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport SE over the weekend, and now it's leaking oil. I have checked it every day since I noticed it and it has dropped almost 2 quarts since we got it. The oil pressure is good too. If anyone knows the answer, please tell. Another thing, if it is leaking oil, about how much would it cost to fix it? Thanks!Oil Leaking on 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport?
What engine is in it? Some of them had a problem with the lower intake manifold gasket.

Oil leaking from decompression lever bad?

Is oil leaking from a decompression pump a bad thing, or is it okay to ride with it like that and just need to check my oil frequently? Oil leaking from decompression lever bad?
It's a bad thing. You probably need rings.Oil leaking from decompression lever bad?
    last post...RINGS.....LOL

could be any number of things.. but start with the easy cheap things first.

Take the rocker cover off.. check the O-ring seal on the lever..

next check the valve stems.... then go looking at rings %26amp; stuff in the bottom of the motor.
well without seeing the machine, and not knowing what make, model, cc's, or anything else, i will make this statement....if the oil is not gushing out with the engine running, and the function of the decompression system is not impaired, wipe it often, keep it clean, drive fast, have fun.
Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

Oil leaking from a decompression lever?

    Change the seal.

Eventually the seal will give out and you'll wind up with an enormous oil leak.

Stop running the engine when the seal blows out.

The only damage that will occur at the moment is the engine will get dirty.

    Keep checking the oil level.

98 Camry leaking oil and my check engine light comes on?

The oil leak is a problem that no one can find the answer too yet it is all over my driveway(and yes it is oil), and my check engine light comes on for no reason that anyone can find. (They tell me that my gas cap is not tight enough) I have taken it to a few dealerships in my area. Someone, anyone any Ideas???98 Camry leaking oil and my check engine light comes on?
Shoot it. Toyotas have no soul. (Just kidding). Has anyone degreased and thoroughly cleaned the underneath and engine to see where the oil is actually coming from? Sounds like you need a good mechanic! (But you already know that). 1. Clean and degrease the engine including underneath. (You can do this yourself with a high pressure washer and degreaser however stay clear of the spark plug leads and other electrics as it may not start when you have finished). 2 Put a large piece of cardboard under the car and wait. 3 check where the oil lands. 4 get under the car (Please use ramps or proper stands, I have witnessed a person get crushed, not pretty). Look up from where the oil is landing. See if you can identify the source. If you can mark it (white paint on a small brush will do). If its simple you may be able to fix it yourself. If not you can go to the mechanic (or 2 or 3) and get an accurate estimate to do the repair. Now that you know the location of the leak you may not know how to fix it but you are less likely to get ripped off. Oil leaks should not be a fact of life on a car as new as 98. Could be anything from a seal to a sump gasket, sump plug O ring (probably copper) oil filter not tight enough or seal leaking, rocker (tappet) cover gasket or any number of other gaskets. Could also be gearbox related or coming from the driveshafts. Did it start slowly? is it getting worse? how long has it been leaking? how much oil are you losing? These are all questions any decent mechanic should ask before he starts charging. For any mechanic to tell you he cant find the leak is crap. He isn't looking hard enough. Go to a decent private mechanic who doesnt mind getting dirty. In regard to the Engine check light it is probably a sensor. You need to plug it in and get an error code.. That should tell you what the alleged cause is. Unfortunately you will probably have to go to a dealer to plug it in unless you know of an independant mechanic with the gear. (Then again if you did we wouldnt be here!) Hope that's some help.98 Camry leaking oil and my check engine light comes on?
check engine is on because you are low on oil
Well Oil Leaks are normal wear and tear that will need attention sooner...(replacing gaskets) that are failing..._sometimes all a leak needs is to be tightened up...and they will stop for a while...

As for the Check Engine, this might be a failing o2 sensor, you need to get to a trusted mechanic and have them look into it for a day...make sure they OBDII (On Board Diagnostic test) the Camry and get back to you with any news so that you can decide what to do...

    best wishes!
I presume you had the following checked. Valve cover/oil pan gasket. Have you /they checked to see if you have a crack in the engine block or not. Also what about a bad oil sending unit.

If your gas cap was not on there tight enough. Your check engine light should come on.
Oil leaks are a problem so you should probably fix that. Clean up your engine and then just follow the trail of oil to the leak.

Gas caps can also set off the check engine light if the gasket is bad or its just not on tight. Replace your gas cap its 10 years old and probably bad.
More than likely, the oil leak probably has nothing to do with the check engine light. The check engine light indicates a problem with the emmisions system.About 90% of check engine lights is because one of the oxygen sensors malfunctioning. The only way to know for sure is to take it to the garage to have the car's computer scanned. They'll tell u which one is bad or what is wrong.sometimes it's more than one thing. As for the leak,it's probably the drain plug gasket, the valve cover gaskets, the oil pan gasket, the oil seals around the crankshaft/and/or camshafts,or even the head gasket. The heads have oil ports in them so the valves get oil,and if it's leaking around where the oil ports are,it will leak oil.Have the engine oil dye-tested.They put this fye in the oil and it tells them exactly where it's leaking.Hope this helps.lata
The oil leak can be from the engine or transmission. Check levels of oils regularly and see which one is depleting unduly. If the levels remain steady, then its just some leak due to the age of the car. Just ensure you donot drive on levels which may damage your engine/transmission.

'Check Engine' light is best left to the diagonostic people who can advise you correctly.
Tape up some newspapers %26amp; lay the whole sheet under the car next morning u can take a look %26amp; have a good idea what are the leak is coming from, if its only a small leak you can pour an additive in the oil that should block the leak for a while.

My son has a 92 ds80 and it leaks oil out the exhaust from engine all the way back what could cause this?

just had new seals put on by repair shop then this happened so don't want to take back. Don't trust them anymore just want to try and fix it so son can ride thanks. My son has a 92 ds80 and it leaks oil out the exhaust from engine all the way back what could cause this?
    piston rings are bad

    valve bushings need replacing

Basically it needs to be rebuiltMy son has a 92 ds80 and it leaks oil out the exhaust from engine all the way back what could cause this?
I assume the oil ratio is correct.

    A little oil is normal,

A lot of oil/smoke is rings are worn out/ not seating correctly,

Just ride it and deal with it, its an older trailbike. no damage is being done.
if 2 stroke engine make sure u have correct mixture or if autolube get pump settings adjusted if 4 stroke [worn piston rings] blue smoke
2 strokes always blow oil out of the exhaust. Sounds normal to me.

  • Oil leaking from the oil pan plug?

My oil pan has a gouge and is pitted where the plug screws in. The plug usually takes a metal washer but there is a narsty gouge in the pan where it goes. Anyone had any luck using a rubber o ring or any sugestions.Oil leaking from the oil pan plug?
Outside of replacing the oil pan itself, rubber o-rings are probably not the best since they can twist, stretch and get pushed out of position easily or simply break under pressure or tightening and cause more of a leak. The best quick fix solution is to get a fairly thick (1/8'; or so) nylon washer to use between the existing washer and the pan along with maybe a spot of RTV sealer at that gouge point.

    Best of luck.

My car is a 2000 mazda 626. its having rough idling, and the oil is leaking from the trans pans. What should I

When the stick is on drive or reverse, it's really rough. But when I change it into park or neutral, it's just fine. What should I do to fix it.

Please healpMy car is a 2000 mazda 626. its having rough idling, and the oil is leaking from the trans pans. What should I
MILEAGE? Change the Transmission Fluid %26amp; Filter! Have a Full Vacuum System Check Done! Best I a Good Transmission Shop ';Not AAMCO!!'; You may need a Major Tune-up and Idle set at 650 to 800 RPM.My car is a 2000 mazda 626. its having rough idling, and the oil is leaking from the trans pans. What should I
Rough idle is often some sort of vacuum leak. Your oil leak is another separate problem.

Also you might have problem with bad Idle Air Controller (IAC). It sole function is to give the engine little bit extra air / gas when the load changes (drive gear, AC going on, etc.). When the idle drops too low then your car will shake.

    Good Luck...
Just have the trans serviced and that will take care of the leak. Your rough idle sound like you have a vacuum leak. A vacuum hose probably fell off. check the motor when it's running and see if you can hear a hissing noise and that will be where the problem is.
Have a pro check the transmission. if it has gone with low fluid for too long, it may be damaged. have the pan seal replaced

Honda Accord 98 V6 4 door, If my distributor is leaking oil?

Do I have to change the whole distributor or just the seal?Honda Accord 98 V6 4 door, If my distributor is leaking oil?
Distributor housing is easier but expensive, shaft seal is replaceable but not easy to find.Honda Accord 98 V6 4 door, If my distributor is leaking oil?
It depends, sometimes you can get away with just the seal, other times you will need to replace the entire distributor. The best way to tell is to take the distributor cap off. If there is oil inside you will need to replace the distributor, if not, just replace the seal.

My car is leaking oil from somewhere. How bad is it?

My 2006 Sonata is leaking oil. I found it underneath on my driveway. It also sprayed all over my car just behind my wheel wells. I checked the oil level and it is full so I'm wondering what could be the problem. This morning, I didn't see any fluid under the car. I know this is pretty vague but I'm just looking to see what others think about it.My car is leaking oil from somewhere. How bad is it?
valve cover gasket or a oil pan gasketMy car is leaking oil from somewhere. How bad is it?
It might be a blocked inlet or filter.
it might be the oil pan bolts might need snugged up some, or the oil filter is leaking. iam not contridicting you, but if its leaking that much, how could it be full. are you sure its not a different kind of oil, like tranny or power steering oil? just thinking here!
If it sprayed all over the car get it to a shop to check for a leak. Rather than engine oil it might be trans fluid.
Had engine oil changed lately? Check to make sure that the oil filter is not leaking! Sometimes the gasket sticks to engine block and a mechainc ';in a hurry'; doesn't notice it, the edge of gasket blows out and oil leaks,-- but of course it would show on dipstick that you were loosing oil!

I the ';fluids'; are all ok, - engine oil, transmission fluid, P.S. fluid, and brake fluid, --- are all ok, -- then I would guess you have a bad CV joint ';boot';! And what you see could be the lubricating ';grease'; which is thicker than engine oil, but would still drip down off fender well when car is parked!

Each axle to drive wheels has two CV (constant velocity) joints. They each have a rubber boot which holds the lubricating grease in side to keep joints from wearing out as fast! They very easily get cracks or holes in them, - especially the outer ones, as they are very close to ';solid'; parts, and if something flys up and wedges in that area, - it is an ';instant hole'; (or sometimes tears the boot completely off)!... Also Ice in winter time will do the job of ';ruining boots';!--- Back in the era of ';rear wheel'; drive cars, - this never happened, as the rear axle was solid all the way across (and ';gear oil'; was inside that), and it had a driveshaft back (to) there with a pair of universal joints on it (2 not 4 like front wheel drive), and these were ';sealed';, - but the better (replacement type) joints were ';greaseable'; to make sure that they were well lubricated, -- but you had to grease them! The great innovation (they said at the Time), was there were no more universal joints to grease manually, and the lubricant was always there! Well that part is true of course, -- but only as long as the boots are good,- when they go bad, it is not as simple as ';manually greasing';, you have to take a whole lot of parts off and remeove shaft to replace the boot! -- And ';joint'; also, - if it went too long without grease in it!

By the way you want to find out asap, - as CV shaft or joint replacement is not cheap!
any leak is bad and its sounds like it is pretty bad to get all over..... best to check everything oil transmission coolant brake fluid and power steering and after you have done this drive to the closest shop

Is my car leaking engine oil and how do you prevent it from leaking?

i just sent my car to fix the leaking engine oil about a week ago.and now i think it;s leaking again.i notice a small puddle underneath the hood this morning.it's black in colour,so i;m guessin it;s engine oil.is there any way to prevent the leaking?i'm still a new driver,so when i drive the car,it's a manual btw,the engine will die at least once.cud that be cause?and is it safe to drive a car with leaking oil??i was playing to drive around town with my fren tmrw.Is my car leaking engine oil and how do you prevent it from leaking?
As long as you check the oil regularly and do not run it low, it's fine to drive it where ever you want to. My advice is to take it back to the place you have the oil leak fixed before.

Now the engine dying doesn't have anything to do with the oil leaking, you probably have a idle air control going bad. When you take it back to have the oil leak checked, have them also check that problem as well.

hope this helps! Is my car leaking engine oil and how do you prevent it from leaking?
Its possible that the leak is just oil left over from the first leak. It can stay on the engine for a little while. The first thing I would do is take it back to the shop I had it repaired at and see if they can find the source. Like I mentioned earlier it could be the previous leak. Killing a stick shift should not cause a leak. If the engine is leaking a small amount just make sure that the level of oil in the engine does not get low and it should be okay to drive to get it checked out. Make sure that you don't run the engine if it is low on oil it could cause major problems and ruin your engine.
it could be the drain plug, the pan gasket,or the oil filter, also check the crank seal.
if you have to drive with a oil leak check your oil before you leave every day-with the engine cold, on a level surface. add oil if it needs it. i would take your car back to the mechanic and tell them they didn't fix it and you are unhappy with the service they gave you
have the engine steam clean, have a technician inspect the leak.if the car was maintance properply,it will cut down the fluid leak.some vehicles will leak fluid in a short time depending on what kind of car you have. vehicles that leak fluid often are Ford,Chevrolet,Mitsubishi,Hyundai,Bmw,Me鈥?Honda
Take it back. They didn't get it fixed.
Your plug to the oilpan may be stripped - replace it and see if it helps.
    No, not safe at all.

If you don't fix it, you won't have a car that works before long
i own a repair shop, and it sounds like one of the main seals leaking on it,,if its leaking a puddle that bad id take it back to who ever was supposed to to have repaired it,,i don't think they done their job well ,and yes it is dangerous to drive it,,because if you forget to add oil to it,,it will damage the engine it ,if it gets too low id just take it back and say here it is,,fix it right this time, good luck,i hope this help,s.,have a good x-mas.
take it back to the repair shop and have them fix it right, its not safe if its leaking lots otherwise check your oil often

What is a oil gasket pan leak?

i took my car to someone to tell me where the smoke was coming from on my muffler pipe in the middle of my car and i was told that i have a slow oil leak coming from my oil pan gasket, the oil is running from the oil pan and dripping onto my pipeWhat is a oil gasket pan leak?
You didn't state the year, make, and model of your vehicle. The oil pan GASKET is the seal that seals your engine oil pan to the engine block. Once the gasket fails due to age, or cracking, oil will leak out onto the exhaust pipe, if the source of the leak happens to be directly above. What is a oil gasket pan leak?
The oil pan gasket is very importand, since there is a bunch of oil sloshing around in there...sometimes the bolts lossen slightly, and can be retightened, most time not...

A shop will charge flat rate usually to repair, up to $250 usually, unless the engine needs to be lifted.
Your question had bring the answer.
If your oil pan gasket is leaking, wind will blow the oil back and hit your exhaust system (which is much hotter than the engine) and burn. Any extra oil might stick to the underside of the body and eventually drip down.
There is a large gasket which seals the bottom of the engine and the top of the oil pan, This gasket has developed a crack, or dried out, or possibly even has shrunk to a certain degree where you have an oil lesk. I'd advise you to get it fixed as it is only going to get worse and worse. Some day one of a few things will happen..you may lose all of your oil, resulting in an engine that seizes or you may experience a fire, which will total the entire car. It's much better (and more economical) to fix the pan gasket, which may cost a couple of hundred dollars, than it is to replace the entire engine or the car.
yeah if it's coming out of the tailpipe you need new piston rings, head gaskets, or oil pan gasket
if you look at the side and bottom of your motor, on the very lowest part it looks like a badly shaped babies bath tub bolted to the bottom of the motor, between this part and the motor itself there is a cork gasket or seal to keep oil contained in the motor for lubrication in the engine when it is running , some where that gasket has come loose and needs to be retightened or replaced. if you have a socket set you can try to tighten them up yourself, so that the leak stops or have a mechanic do it for you, but it will cost you mega$$. if the leak is really severe, the only fix is a complete replacement pf the seal, and maybe the bolts and pan too if it is dented or corroded.
get it fixed quickly as it can catch fire!! Had it happen to me. On some cars it is an easy fix, just remove the oil pan and put on a new gasket(rubber seal), but on others the exhuast isin the way. Sounds like yours is.

If I had my guess I am saying this car could be a Ford taurus?? If so the exhaust will have to be removed. If it is an older one, then you might as well have someone else do it because the bolts would probably be rusted up tight. What someone told me was a 30 minute job turned into a 3 day job after going to get the right tools and parts and replacing the parts I cut off and such. Not fun.
when your oil pan gasket leaks!!!!!!
Your oil pan is where the oil is stored when your engine is not using it, the gasket is the seal around this pan to keep the oil in. The gasket is leaking. you need a new one.

  • My oil is leaking in my 1999 Ford Taurus, not to bad though. Is my car still safe to drive?

I took my car to get the oil changed because it was due and the machanic said that I had no oil in my car, no oil on the dip stick. So the machanic changed the filter and added oil. But is my car unsafe to drive if I continue to keep adding oil as needed? Is this situation as severe as a leaking trans. or leaking power sterring? Can this problem get worse? My oil is leaking in my 1999 Ford Taurus, not to bad though. Is my car still safe to drive?
It is safe to drive if you keep adding oil, its like a tire with a nail in it, if you keep adding air and procrastinating on it, then it gets you by, but the first time you let the air get too low or forget, then you have a flat, but with the engine it will be seized, there are no tire plugs for engines. No oil on the stick shows you dont maintain your vehicle. My oil is leaking in my 1999 Ford Taurus, not to bad though. Is my car still safe to drive?
you're gonna need to warm the car up first, turn it off, and then check the oil and keep adding oil as the time goes. get it fixed at a shop ASAP because it will get worse. u don't need this headache, and as much oil as ur gonna spend everyday, ur gonna end up wanting to buy a new car...is it worth this aggravation?
it wont get any better, it will only get worse, until you get it fixed. its just as bad as any other leak, as long as you keep putting it off, the worse it will get. there are a few things you can try, like snugging up the bolts on the valve pans and oil pan, also make sure the oil filter is tight and not leaking.
ck your oil frequently. you don't want to drive your car without oil or your engine can seize. keep the oil level to the proper level
yes it can get worse ,it all depends on where the oil leak is coming from to start with,if its a minor leak and you keep it full of oil you should be ok,but you still need to get that repaired,if you forget to add oil to it one day you could ruin a good engine depending on how fast it leaks out, good luck on it.
first get the leak fixed, and no as long as there is oil its fine, if its dripping then fix it. so you dont have to keep adding oil.

thats mostly common sense. fix the leak
It is not safe to drive from what you tell us. Why dont you fix it before you need a 3to 4000$ engine???Its a wonderit hasnt seized up before!!!
just fix the leak before you have a bigger problom.

Why is Oil Leaking Out Of my Exhaust Pipe?

I have an old 74 Chevy Truck. since its a 74, I dIdn't need the smog regulator so I removed it. as soon as i did, the exhaust pipe started leaking oil along with the exhaust. It comes out as a mist but it's a noticable amount when I check the oil. It's been happening ever since I removed the regulator a couple months ago and it hasn't stopped. What's the problem and how can i fix it without puting the smog regulator back on? Any help greatly apreciated. ThanksWhy is Oil Leaking Out Of my Exhaust Pipe?
Well without actually putting any guages to it.... here we go.. I'm not sure if you removed a smog pump or an EGR Valve... so there can be alot of variables here....

Worn valve guides and leaking valve seals...

Worn rings .... oil is going past them into the cylinders....

A cracked oil ring.... so it isn't wiping excess oil off the cylinder wall back to the crankcase...Why is Oil Leaking Out Of my Exhaust Pipe?
It sounds like your oil control rings are bad. If that's the case, you will have to rebuild your engine.
its a 74 model and its woreout for one if you got oil out the tail pipe a ring is bad
keep the cat converter on, your contaminating our breathing air.
Are you SURE it is oil? It may be black carbon%26amp;water mixed.
sounds alot like you have either valve seating problems or piston ring problems.

99 Honda 400ex is not leaking oil but there is no oil on the dipstick when i check it what is the problem?

O.k. i put the correct amount of oil in as it says but when i check the oil there is no oil on the dipstick. When i start it and let it idle for a few minutes it reads fine. I don't know if this is normal or not so could you guys please help me! I have read that this could be improper oil filter installation but I'm not sure. So if you could give me all the information you could. Thank You!99 Honda 400ex is not leaking oil but there is no oil on the dipstick when i check it what is the problem?
oil is not returning from engine or you are burning oil in a very bad way99 Honda 400ex is not leaking oil but there is no oil on the dipstick when i check it what is the problem?
Either you didn't put in enough oil, or you are not checking the oil level properly.

Start and run the engine for a few minutes - to allow the oil to circulate throughout the engine, fill the oil cooler %26amp; oil lines and fill the oil filter.

Stop the engine and let it sit for a few minutes - to allow the oil to settle to the bottom of the crankcase.

Check the oil level while the engine is not running.

Check the oil level by resting the dipstick on it's threads (do not screw in the dip stick).

Add or drain oil as necessary.
chek ur dipstick for originality, if it is too short and does not touch the oil in the sump you'll feel ur car is runnin less oil, the other problem cud be worn out piston rings in this case the oil gets burnt in the cylinder due to the gap between the rings and the cylinder so u dont see any oil leak but the oil still disappears
it sounds like you have several very good answers. have you been fouling plugs? it sounds as though you are not putting enough oil in it or it has the wrong dipstick in the engine.
400ex is a pain in the butt when it comes to oil level.
