I have been fixing up my project vehicle a 1986 astrovan that seems to be in good order however it has been sitting for years. After a fuel pump and brakes it runs and stops......i was hoping to paint it and customize interior when i realized it has a slow OIL LEAK. It seems to come from up by the seal. i was told that dropping the pan might be a huge expense more then van is worth. 1) how hard is it (hours rated ) to drop pan, must engine have to be lifted. 2) is it visually possible to see where leak is coming from...such as crankshaft where as it too would be better of to buy other van something i wish to avoid cuz i have invested several hundred in this project w/ dreams of a cool customized van. But i also want be smart about it.
any ideas...thanksAstro Van.....Oil Pan-leak-repair ?
better check the rear main seal after the pan is off, they go sometimes too and leak oil. you have to loosen the motor mounts and jack the engine up so it will clear the crank. while you have the pan off, you might as well change the oil pump too.
