How do you find out where your car is leaking oil from?

like what should i look at? just the oil pan %26amp; filter?

or what?

and whats an easy way to tell what part of the car the leak is coming from? How do you find out where your car is leaking oil from?
look for where its clean and wet with oil before you wash itHow do you find out where your car is leaking oil from?
First you should raise your hood to see if you see oil on top of the engine, like around the valve covers, if not then pull your car up on some ramps and place a piece of cardboard down so you can see where the oil is leaking from. It could be your oil pan gasket or your oil filter , your tranny maybe leaking around the pan gasket , all so check your power steering pump and hose's. take a look at your transmission lines where they screw into the bottom of the radiator.
you need to get a engine oil dye and a black light

pour the dye into the engine oil,run the engine to normal operating temp. for at least 20 min.

now plug in the black light and look around until you see the lime green trail of oil to the leak source

valve covers, oil pan or rear main seal ,intake manifold

its the easy and fastest way to determined oil leaks
I would set down a white sheet of paper on the floor under the front end. About 4 x 4 feet. Do this over night to give it time to drip. Check the colour of the oil also . Normally red oil is from the transmission. Gold colour oil will be from the engine or power steering. Brake fluid will mix with water and other oils will not. Take note after looking at the drips on the sheet what was above the drip. good luck
You want to look for the darkest wettest part of the engine. Say you see it dripping crawl under it. Look on the tie rods first. Then if you see some follow the oil drip tragetory up to the pan, filter, etc.
Shampoo the engine compartment at your local carwash (carwarsh in Texas ). Then drive it home %26amp; inspect for fresh oil.
clean all engine down then run engine till hot and lay cardboard on floor under engine and leave sitting till oil drips down then trace it back.
Clean the engine and engine compartment, then look for fresh oil.
get under the car and look to see where its leakin from dau!!!!!!!1
