My 1990 Pontiac Sunbird is leaking oil around the gasket. Is my head gasket blown?

What you might do to find the ';real'; source of the leak is take the car to a wand-type car wash, lift the hood and clean the ever lasting hell out of the entire engine compartment. Now every-thing's is clean as a whistle and you can keep an eye on all mating gasket surfaces. Head gaskets if leaking, 99.9 % of the time leak coolant. If it continues to get wet *first where the cylinder head bolts to the block dip your little finger into the moisture when the motor is cold. Place it on your tongue. If it tastes sweet you have a coolant leak. Watch all other gaskets at the same time as oil likes to creep in all directions. Those Brazilian made engines are notorious for oil leaks. Power wash your engine and start with a new valve cover gasket. Fel-pro's are better thant he factory ones. When you remove your valve cover, clean the inside with oven cleaner. If your engine is full of sludge, start using a better oil in it!!! These engines cannot stand sludge build-up anywhere. Oil seals will leak if the oil pressure regulator becomes filled with sludge. Good luck!! You can get better power if you remove the stock plugs and install a set of Bosch Fusion or Platinum single points. Use Mobil One oil designed ';for use in GM cars';
is it a 4 cyl?if it is make sure its not coming from the rocker box(s) and running down. oil,dirty oil is not a sign of leaking, but seapage,or its not the source. the source will be clean not grimy,but moist and slick. if you dont wipe anything, youll see it plain as day.look for the clean spot grasshopper.
Hi , it would be better if you said what motor it is. 4 cly ones leak at the valve cover gasket a lot and that will run all over the motor,check it out , head gaskets leak water not oil,but valve covers will leak oil
Could be, but probably running down from valve cover gasket. Is engine running rough or overheating? If not unless oil is ';bubbling'; while engine running I doubt it.
You are probably seeing valve cover gasket leaking. jb
