95 Pontiac Firebird leaking oil and check engine light is on?

I recently bought a 95 Pontiac Firebird and it has been running badly. I changed the spark plugs and the spark plug wires, then the coil packs, it runs a little bit better the Check Engine light is stil on and it is leaking oil in two spots, when you look under the car, one leak is coming from directly under the oil filter, and the other seems to be coming from the pipe that goes to the catalytic converter, or the oil could be dripping onto it perhaps, not sure there. Would a bad catalytic converter cause this? I'm sure that the oil filter needs to be changed but it kinda putt putts...95 Pontiac Firebird leaking oil and check engine light is on?
if your cel is on, go to advance auto. they will plug in diagnostic tester for FREE and tell you what the issue is. as far as running poorly, it could be a myriad of things. an easy fix is to change the distributor cap and rotor. you could have a bad distributor, bad fuel injectors, some bad sensor like maf, air idle control etc. advance may be able to tell u what is bad. good luck. rob

catalytic convertor changes carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide i think. it has nothing to do with oil. an easy check is the gasket around oil pan. wipe it clean and see if it comes back. on the bad side u could have a major engine gasket issue. i am not familiar enough to talk about that
