Why would a new engine be leaking oil?

I recently got a new engine put in my car and I've had oil leaking every since. The shop (well known) has been trying to solve the problem for almost a month, no success. What could it be? It leaks heavily after I drive for a while and park; then it will taper off. I'm so frustrated. Spent over $3,000 on the engine and labor. Please help! Why would a new engine be leaking oil?
Your mechanic should have been able to locate the leak easily. I've never heard of a leak that couldn't be found.

My suggestion is that you take it to a mechanic who did not install the engine. He'll have no bias, and should be able to locate the leak with no problem. Why would a new engine be leaking oil?
Hard to believe that a shop looking for a month cant find the leak. that right off should be telling you to change shops. a good mechanic worth his salt can tell you in one hour where an engine is leaking from. why wasnt the motor test run on the floor before installing it as all motors should be? and do you mean is this a ';new'; motor like a fresh rebuild or crate motor? or is it ';new'; to your car? either way, who ever swapped the motors should have noticed an oil leak on the outside of the motor. internal oil leaks ( through the rings ) cant be seen until the engine is run. again, this woulda been found had the engine been tested on the floor like it shoulda been.

simple oil leak detection fix.... pressure wash motor with a heavy degreaser. purchase engine oil ';dye'; from parts store. pour into engine just like you put in oil. run engine for 50 miles or an hour. with black light ( or corect lite specified by the oil dye manufacturer) manuever light around motor. the dye, mixed with oil will flouresce under the light. thus making your oil leak glow. follow glow trail to its highest point on motor. theres your leak! if internal leak, like rings, your will notice smoke from exhaust. and to add, i would change shops. if they cant find an oil leak in a month i highly doubt they even know what oil looks like.
YEAR MAKE MODEL

Is it a VW bug.....if so, they all leak.......now you know why we need to know pertinent information.
$3.000 is a fair amont of money to spend on a vehicle ,get a mechanic to double check there work
