My 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?

It doesnt smoke or leak but every 300 miles or so about a half quart is usedMy 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?
There's only two places it can evauate the engine.

1.Comustion and out the tail pipe.

2. Leaks

You probably have a little of both. A small amount of worn rings and sealing allows some oil to be burnt, albeit somewhat efficiently, to not notice it in your exhaust.

Even though you may not see oil on the ground, It's leaking a little.

With all that said, that's actually within factory specs for oil consumption, and yes, there is such a thing.

You can switch to a 'High Milage' oil which has additives that mmake rubber seals 'swell' or 'grow' which provides a better seal. Also, a thicker viscosity may help in the combustion side with frequent oil changes. Try a 40 or 50 weight oil.My 74 cadillac uses oil ,doesnt smoke or leak but the oil goes, why?
It's just wear and tear. What do you think is coming from the exhaust pipe. Feel in there and you will have oil on your hands. All old cars do this and it is a simple thing to check before you buy a used car. The more oil you have on your fingures, the more wear will be on the engine.
maybe there is something wrong with the seal
pistons and cylinder walls or worn
if youre SURE its not leaking, and theres no coolant or water in the oil, then youre burning it. theres nowhere else for it to go. 300 miles for half a quart, its not going to be noticeably smoking...perhaps try having someone rev the engine up to around 4k or so periodically and see if you can see the smoke. if its a high mileage motor, you may have some worn piston rings or valve seals. id say the seals would be a more likely culprit (and luckily a less expensive one ;) good luck
