How do I tell what oil is leaking?

I have a 1990 Toyota Corrolla and I've had an oil leak for a week or so. Just wondering what I can do to determine where the leak is coming from and what it is that's leaking? I only know how to check engine oil, and it's level hasn't changed.

Thank you :).How do I tell what oil is leaking?
Thats easy. First go to the car wash and wash your engine off completely. Top and bottom. Get it as clean as possible.

Then drive home. When you get home, place a sheet of white poster board on the ground under your engine.

It may take awhile for any oil to leak out, so go do something else and come back later to check. By looking at the poster board you can easily tell if the oil is coming from the front or rear of the engine. Open the hood and look in the general area of the oil stained poster board. If you did a good job of cleaning the engine, you will probably see fresh oil dripping down to the stain. .How do I tell what oil is leaking?
Look at the color and fluidity of the ';oil'; that has dropped from the car. If it is black, then suspect the motor is leaking oil.

If it is RED, then suspect the Transmission or Power Steering system to leak.

If it is Green, then suspect a Radiator or cooling system leak.

If it is clear, suspect the brake system.

The fluid must either be thick (oil)

or watery (water:cooling system.)
What color is the oil..reddish..black.. are you sure its not antifreeze?

Where its coming from can be deceiving, it can run down the motor and hit the frame and flow elsewhere.
you want to be able to tell where the oil is coming from?, well get a big piece of card board and slide it under the car the night before, then check it when you get up.
If the oil level has not change then you are not losing oil.
I say the same.. if the oil level is not changed.. then its not an oil leak.. unless it is that minor.. I could be break fluid, power steering fluid or oil... could be a plug that needs to be replaced or a head gasket.. if you don't know..look for a garage that will tell you exactly what is going on with it, before they do fixing.
if i was you id do this...id clean under your car with degreaser and wipe it down really good and dry it really good..then after that id find a dry area like a driveway something really light so you can spot of the drip...after that lift the car up locate when the spot is find it about and follow the oil drip...after that just repost your findings and you can go from there
first get the engine bay %26amp; underneath steamed cleaned then after the first run check %26amp; see if you can find where it,s leaking from

you dont say if its automatic becuase some times when you top up the transmission you may spill abit and when you run the car it spreads and looks like engine oil leaking

P%26gt;S you havent said where the oil is under the car or in the engine bay
Check the color of the leak. If it's brown, there is a good chance it's oil. If it's red, it could be tranny fluid or break fluid. If it's a neon green, it could be anti-freeze. I hope this helps.
