How do you refill differential oil on a 2000 pontiac firebird, possible leak, cost?

i bought rear axle gear oil but dont know where exactly it goes on the differential.. car makes a hum when accelerating and when releasing gas i hear a slight clinking noise? there is alot of oil outside the diff. could be a leak and how much will that cost me?How do you refill differential oil on a 2000 pontiac firebird, possible leak, cost?
I took the back plate off mine because it was leaking bought some red rtv and a gasket put it back together 4 years ago still not leaking to put oil in look for a square hole in differential 3/8 inch to put a rachet of that size in good luckHow do you refill differential oil on a 2000 pontiac firebird, possible leak, cost?
jajajjajajajajjja todavia... Report Abuse

either on the side of the differential or on the back cover there is a plug about 1/2 way from top to bottem, remove it and put the gear oil in unti it runs back out the same hole. replace the plug. as far as cost of repair it depends where it is leakin at
there is a nut on the diff that you must take out. then fill the diff tell it starts leaking out that hole. then put nut back in. if you want to fix the leak if the unit is not cracked . just replace the gasket. if the diff is cracked then you have a bigger problem
es una sign de dios ya no kemes llanta!!
jack the car up and look in front along the side of the rearend and you should see a plug, it's on the passenger side, unloosen it and stick your finger in the hole after you have the plug out and see if you can feel the fluid, if you can't add fluid until it runs out and put the plug back in. Drive the car and see if the noise is still there and if it is you might have done some damage inside the rearend or it could be a wheel bearing going bad as it depends on the rearend fluid for lubrication. I would also check your rear universal joint for play in it as it will clunk if it is bad. I really can't say how much money your looking at until the problem is diagnosed.
This should provide you the step by step process you require
