Chrysler Concorde with the 2.7 engine. Transmission failing, mechanic said look for new car as he saw oil leak

and that new water pump that was put in at 50000 mi looked like it would buckle. The leaks he saw looked like a mixture of oil, anti-freeze and transmission fluid. Basically he told me to start looking bout 3 weeks ago and I've been an idiot not acting sooner. Finally settled on a car, and was excited to go today but this morn leaving for work my transmission wouldn't change gears. I am really miffed right now. Blah. This wasn't the first time I had a big prob, at 50000 the water pump blew and antifreeze mixed in with oil creating that famous sludge. Luckily my mechanic flushed my engine out and I got to drive it until now, at 69300. Anyways enough ranting. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. Just sell as is now private party as it would be hard to trade in. Or try to replace transmission and engine. If the latter, since 2.7 engine is the one with the problem, can you install a 3.5 in its place?

I bought this car brand new and have maintained from day 1 w/ records to prove it.Chrysler Concorde with the 2.7 engine. Transmission failing, mechanic said look for new car as he saw oil leak
Chances are the trans problem is just the input or output speed sensor gone bad. Take it to a reputable mechanic and have them check it out. If they tell you it needs a transmission, then take it somewhere else for a second opinion. The 2.7 can be replaced with the 3.5 liter, it has been, and if you search the internet, you can find instructions on how to do it.Chrysler Concorde with the 2.7 engine. The best thing Chrysler could have done with all of those early 2.7L cars was recall them all and either fix the numerous problems that everyone will eventually have with them, or just drop a different motor into every car that had the early 2.7 in it.

Chrysler letting customers eat the cost of their piss-poor engineering job on that motor is why many people won't buy another Chrysler in 2010 and beyond. Ford and GM are still trying to live down the garbage they put on the road in the 1980s. Bean counting accountants in Detroit never seem to learn that creating a bad reputation by saving a few dollars now will cost you many sales worth many thousands of dollars in the future.

As far as what to do with your car, I'd see if there was any way a mechanic could get it to shift again without putting in a new tranny, then I would take it and trade it in ASAP. Don't pour any more money into it - it's a lost cause.
