Oil is leaking out of air filter on craftsman 625 push mower. Could too much oil in motor be causing this?

Was mowing on an angle and all of a sudden a lot of thick very white smoke started coming out of exhaust. Turned off and noticed oil leaking/dripping from behind air filter.Oil is leaking out of air filter on craftsman 625 push mower. Could too much oil in motor be causing this?
yes it could be overfilled in oil but it would have to b about a 1/2 inch above the fill mark if its o.k level . U have too look at if u have tip the mower on its side or had it and an angle for any reason like cleaning under deck or cking or replacing blade or mowing steep hills e.t.c.., OIL WILL RUN PASS THE OIL RETURN HOLE IN BREATHER ASSY, IF TIPPED WRONG INWICH THE VENT TUBE IS CONNECTED TO THE AIR FILTER ASSY. NEVER TIP A MOWER ON THE SPARK PLUG SIDE OR AIR CLEANER SIDE .if u have big hills u will always experience this, these engines r not made for inclines. on hills mow with sp plug facing up if possibleOil is leaking out of air filter on craftsman 625 push mower. The mower could be overfilled. Now that there is oil in the air filter, there will not be enough air flow, and it will create a vacuum pulling in more air from the breather tube. Make sure the mower isn't overfilled and replace the air filter. Removing oil from engines can be a pain. The oil drain plug will likely be at the base of the engine, near the dipstick and the blade shroud. A lot of mower engines drain plug is removed with a 3/8 extension and ratchet, instead of a wrench or allen wrench.
That is most likely the case. The crankcase is vented through a tube to the airbox. If oil get into the tube it goes straight to the air filter. If the oil level is correct you have to tip the mower up pretty high to get oil into the vent tube. You should never fill it above the full mark on the dipstick. Check the oil level and drain some out if necessary. Remove the sparkplug wire before reaching under the mower to find the drain plug.
yes that could very well be it, try replacing the air filter and see what it does. more than likely the oil is coming out of the breather into the filter
