What is the possible cause of oil leak in a car, particularly under the car?

Oil leaks can come from a whole variety of places:

- rear main seal

- front main seal

- oil pan gasket

- oil drain plug

- oil filter

- valve covers

- oil pressure sending unit

- etc....

If it is a big leak you should have someone look at it soon to get a better idea of where it is coming from. Most places will do a check for free if you ask around. If it is just a few drops or so then I wouldn't worry too much about it as most cars tend to leak a little after they get a little older. What is the possible cause of oil leak in a car, particularly under the car?
wow that is a broad subject, could be anything. #1 leaky valve cover, leaky pan gasket , or even worse leaky rear main seal, that is the killer. or maybe just bad blow-by ,but you couldn't be so lucky i don't think. What is the possible cause of oil leak in a car, particularly under the car?
Check Gaskets on oil pan and oil seals. This may also be loose bolts on oil pan. Dry off wet oily area and see where it is leaking. Hope this helps
You can narrow it down by putting a piece of cardboard under the engine after you park it or just before so you can drive on it and hold it in palce with your wheels... Then you can see the area the leak is coming from.
could be different things.oil pan gasket, oil filter, rear main seal leaking, valve pans leaking and running down, oil sending unit, timing cover gasket or seal, thats a few things that might be leaking.
